Install solar

I fund my installation

You fund your installation. Prepare your roof, compare quotes and follow the steps with your installer and Sibelga.

First, a roof ready for solar

Start with the building. A recently renovated roof is not a guarantee on its own: check its covering, structure and any planned work.

Plan insulation and roof work

Reducing heat loss and completing roof work before fitting panels can avoid removing them later. Homegrade and Réseau Habitat can help prepare your project.

Explore solar potential

The solar map is a starting point. Shade, obstacles, usable area and the roof’s load capacity still need an on-site assessment.

Compare complete quotations

Ask for estimated production, equipment, warranties and which inspections and administrative steps are included. Check any required permits with the relevant authorities.

From quotation to a compliant installation

Keep three separate steps clear: electrical inspection, the Sibelga attestation and green certification. Your installer can help; agree who handles each step.

  1. You + installer

    Assess and choose

Check feasibility, permits and connection requirements. Above 10 kVA, Sibelga requires approval in principle before installation.

  2. You + Sibelga

    Prepare the meter

Arrange a bidirectional smart meter or activation of export readings on the existing meter. Coordinate this with Sibelga before fitting panels.

  3. Installer + inspection body

    Install and inspect

Have the system and production meter installed. The electrical inspection checks RGIE compliance: keep the report and initial reading.

  4. You + Sibelga

    Declare the installation

Declare it to Sibelga within 30 days of receiving the conformity certificate. Submit the requested documents to obtain the Sibelga attestation.

  5. You + approved certifier

    Apply for green certification

Submit a complete file to a Brugel-approved certification body (OCA). This is separate from the electrical inspection; a visit is not always required, notably for PV up to 36 kWp.

  6. You + Sibelga / Brugel

    Monitor production

After certification, activate the access provided for Green Meter and the Brugel extranet. Keep certificates, system specifications and access details together.

Produce electricity, receive and sell certificates

The production meter measures kWh, not certificates. Certificates are awarded from reported readings. Selling them is separate from selling surplus electricity.

  1. Read the production meter and report it through Green Meter in the applicable periods; this is not necessarily a single annual reading.
  2. Check the certificates awarded to your Brugel account.
  3. Compare buyers’ offers and agree a sale; the extranet does not automatically buy certificates.
  4. Make the agreed transfer in the Brugel extranet, check payment and keep the transaction record.

A co-owned roof?

Prepare the proposal with the building manager and co-owners: roof, quotation, financing, connection meter and use of surplus. Put it on the General Assembly agenda. Permissions and voting rules depend on your situation; exclusive use of a roof does not settle them.

Ready to share your surplus?

  • System in service, electrical inspection completed and Sibelga attestation available.
  • Compatible communicating meter and export rights checked, including with third-party investment.
  • Green-certificate status clarified separately; supplier arrangements for supply and residual export checked.
  • EAN, technical details and contact information ready for our producer application.

The team checks your application and guides you to the agreement in your member portal. Sharing starts on the date confirmed by Sibelga.

Questions before you get started

What are green certificates?

They support renewable generation. For an eligible certified installation, production readings determine the certificates awarded, which can then be sold. They are separate from selling surplus electricity. Check Brugel’s current certification requirements before starting your project.

What changes for green certificates in 2026?

Requirements and coefficients depend on capacity and commissioning date. Consult Brugel’s current schedule and check certification requirements, including RESCert where applicable, before accepting a quotation. A certificate rate alone does not guarantee a payback period.

Is there a minimum number of panels?

There is no magic number for every project. Available area, orientation, shade, needs and cost determine what makes sense. Have an installer size the system; BEES coop financing also requires an eligibility study.

Can panels go on several roofs?

This can be assessed. Each roof’s orientation and shading, connections and metering need review by the installer and, where needed, Sibelga. Do not assume different roofs or meters can be combined without changes.

Do panels need cleaning every year?

Not necessarily. Monitor output and follow the manufacturer’s and installer’s guidance. Unusual production drops or heavy dirt warrant professional advice. Do not improvise rooftop cleaning; leave work at height to a qualified, properly equipped person.

What about plug-and-play panels?

These devices connect through a socket. Use requires approved equipment and compliance with connection and notification rules. Read current Sibelga and Synergrid guidance before buying. Sibelga states that plug-and-play panels do not qualify for green certificates.
